Ruthie Foster

Ruthie Foster

Three-time "Best Blues Album" Grammy nominee singer/guitarist Ruthie Foster of Austin Texas has dueted with Bonnie Raitt, performed  with the Allman Brothers, and shared the stage with Susan Tedeschi. She's the recipient of Seven Blues Music Awards, three Austin Music Awards, the Grand Prix du Disque award from the Académie Charles-Cros in France, and a Living Blues Critics' Award for "Female Blues Artist of the Year."

The Philadelphia City Paper writes of Foster, “The energy she brings with just voice and guitar is stunning. Ruthie's drawn comparisons to Ella and Aretha, but musically neither is really close. What she does have in common with Fitzgerald and Franklin is the irresistible blaze – it's impossible to look away, even close the eyes, for one second.”

Tickets $15 general admission. Advance sales at http://aca.tix.com/ (no fees) and at door night of show (box office opens at 6:30 pm).

This activity is made possible in part by the voters of  Minnesota through a grant from the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council, thanks to appropriations from the Minnesota State Legislature’s general and arts and cultural heritage funds.

Siama Matuzungidi & Congo World Quartet
04/07/2018: 7 PM@ Arrowhead Center for the Arts
Congolese guitarist and singer Siama Matuzungidi recorded hundreds of soukous hits during his decades in Africa and helped popularize soukous dancing on tours with Kanda Bongoman, Sam Mangwana, Samba Mapangala, and other major stars of the genre.

Now a Minnesota resident, Siama brings his feel-good acoustic music, including songs inspired by traditional music from his childhood in rural DR Congo, to US crowds. Watch this recent PBS special about Siama's life and music here! Siama on PBS "Lowertown Line"

For his Grand Marais concert, Siama will perform with his Congo World Quartet. Featuring Siama, Dallas Johnson, global music drummer Tim O'Keefe, and renowned cellist Jacqueline Ultan, this quartet creates a unique fusion by blending a colorful palette of musical influences with Siama's traditional Congolese music, resulting in an uplifting and spirited tapestry filled with lush textures and dramatic nuance.

Tickets $15 adults, $5 youth (18 & under) general admission.
